The Superintendent’s Office provides overall leadership and strategic direction to the school division in conjunction with the School Board.
The Superintendent’s Office ensures the school system’s education and administrative functions operate efficiently and effectively. The office ensures necessary short- and long-term action plans are developed and implemented to achieve District goals and operational expectations.
The office serves staff, students, parents, families, businesses and community members.

Nicole Swigart 1991 SHS
I have worked for Rapid City Area schools for more than 34 years. I am excited to serve the entire district and community in the role of RCAS Superintendent.
Serving as the RCAS Superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year means I am tasked with leading the district forward. Rapid City Area Schools plays a vital role in the community, and I am thrilled to work with the BOE, Community, and RCAS staff to make this year great. I have 4 areas of focus for this school year: Communication, Appreciation, Education, and Celebration.
This year the district is going to strive to communicate better throughout our organization and with the community. RCAS is going to focus on appreciating all the fantastic employees that work for the district. Families, students, and the community will also see and feel the appreciation we have for being given the opportunity to teach and serve the children. Education will continue to be a primary focus. Our Instructional Framework, commitment to PLCs, and focus on making educational gains with all students guides our daily work.
RCAS will also be making the choice to celebrate by looking for the positives daily. We live in a wonderful community and work with fantastic students. There is always something good happening in the district.

- Taught English, Reading, and Drama at Stevens High School
- Coached and advised numerous clubs and activities.
- Served as Teacher of the year 2006-2007- RCAS, Region 7, and SHS
- Acted as an Instruction Coach for district High Schools
- Worked as an Administrator 2010-2022
