Welcome to the Rapid City Area Schools!
I am proud to serve as the Superintendent of Schools and excited about our future!
This school year, we entered year two of our Strategic Plan 2022. This ambitious five-year plan outlines five broad goals – Reading by 3rd Grade; 21st Century Learning; College, Career, and Life Readiness; Teaching and Leading; and School and Partnerships – all with one purpose in mind, to prepare our students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to be successful in post-secondary and beyond in whatever path they choose as we strive to fulfill our vision of creating tomorrow’s community through inspiration, innovation, and excellence. This year we have begun moving from planning to implementation with the implementation of our new elementary reading curriculum materials toward our Reading by 3rd Grade goal, and the start of our STEAM2 pilots in two elementary and two middle schools as part of our 21st Century Learning goal, and much more.
Through all my experiences in K-12 education, I have valued the work of educators and the strength of a supportive and inspired community. Our students are our greatest assets; and we all want them to be healthy, well-rounded students who do well academically, socially, and emotionally. We also want them to be good people who treat others well and make the world a better place.
We are fortunate to have highly talented and dedicated leadership and staff who are committed to the success of our students and our schools.
The Rapid City and Black Hills area is not just a beautiful place in which to live, grow, work, and play. It is a destination. A special place from which to build a career, raise a family, pursue life’s dreams, and achieve personal and professional goals. With the implementation of our Strategic Plan 2022, the opportunities we offer and the people who provide them will take our students to new heights of success as we inspire, innovate, and excel.
Here’s to a great year!
