Teach for us.

Our ambitious teaching staff and administration believe in providing our students with innovative instruction but also focus on good old fashioned classroom teaching!  Along with our top-notch staff, our diverse population of students (14,000 but who’s counting…) will continue to challenge and grow you. We may be biased, but we believe our district is the best.

We promote interactive instruction through staff developmental offerings ranging from building-based opportunities to innovative graduate courses.

RCAS supports new teachers by encouraging participation in the SD DOE mentoring program. New teachers (1-2 years of experience in the profession) are matched with an experienced professional within the district. This program allows the new teacher professional development (for university credit or contact hours for certificate renewal) and personal, focused support from the mentor teacher.

The Office of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation supports the professional development of teachers by offering courses designed to specifically align with the RCAS strategic plan and professional needs of K-12 teachers. These courses are offered at a reduced tuition rate if $95/graduate credit. Our office also offers free, online, and at your own pace book studies. RCAS employees receive 7.5 contact hours while reflecting on the application of the concepts in the text and engage in professional discourse with other educators from across the district.

Health Insurance

As a Rapid City Area School District employee you have the opportunity to participate in a package of medical, prescription, dental and life insurance benefits offered to you at a premium cost.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

FSA’s allow you to save money on your healthcare and/or dependent day care expenses. You set aside funds each pay period on a pre-tax basis and use them tax-free for qualified expenses. You pay no federal income or Social Security taxes on your contributions to an FSA. (That’s where the savings comes in!)

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program is available to all District employees at no cost!  The EAP can help with stress, anxiety, grief and loss, child care/elder care resources and financial planning.

Retirement Plans

As an employee we put in 6%, the District will match 6%!  You are also able to contribute to SDRS’s Supplemental Retirement Plan.  As an employee of a public school, you would also be eligible to enroll in a 403(b) retirement plan!
