East Middle School hosts largest FIRST LEGO League tournament to date

For the first time, East Middle School hosted the FIRST LEGO League Rapid City Qualifier. It was the largest tournament held in Rapid City to date with a total of 18 FIRST LEGO League teams participating (109 students)! Additionally, two FIRST LEGO League Junior Teams and the FRC Rapid Acceleration high school team joined the competition.

 

Ten First LEGO League teams qualified for the State Championship, which will be held in Sioux Falls on February 2nd. They are: East Middle School Dream Team, Hill City Ranger Robotics, New Underwood Tigers, East Middle School Preperoni’s, RA the Best Martian, Set to Win – SKOAR, S.L.E.G.O., Team Cavaliers, Tera Bytes, and the Tiger Techs.

 

The teams/individuals listed below were recognized with the following awards:

 

Champion’s Award: Hill City Ranger Robotics

Project Award: Lego My Ego

Core Values Award: Preperoni’s

Robot Design Award: Tera Bytes

Robot Performance Award: S.L.E.G.O.

Rising Star Awards: Team Cavaliers

Outstanding Coach/Mentor Award: Mary and Alan Anderson (Tera Bytes)

Outstanding Volunteer Award: Sarah Jensen (East Middle School Facilities Coordinator + Teacher & Coach)
