Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.
FIRST® LEGO® League is an international program formed by a partnership between FIRST® (for inspiration and recognition of science and technology) and the LEGO® Group. The relationship between these two organizations has produced this powerful program for young people ages 9-14 that helps them discover the fun in science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge and valuable career and life skills.
