The Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education is thrilled to announce Dr. Jami Jo Thompson as our next Superintendent!
After an extensive national search, Dr. Thompson stood out as an experienced, passionate, and student-focused leader. With over 30 years in public education — including 11 years as Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools in Nebraska — she’s known for driving academic growth, improving student outcomes, and fostering supportive school environments.
Dr. Thompson shared her excitement:
"I am truly honored to have been selected as the next Superintendent of Rapid City Area Schools. I’m eager to learn about the many great things already happening within this district so that together, we can build upon them to enhance student learning opportunities and outcomes. My husband, Ron, and I have visited Rapid City often, and we are excited to make this wonderful community our home."
